Description
The owl trail leads along a stream into the valley head of the Windischbachau and is an experience for the whole family. Remarkable facts about the five owl species found in the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area - eagle owl, hawk owl, tawny owl, rough-legged owl and pygmy owl - are presented along the trail at eight stations. The scenic attractions and the structures of the second Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline also make a visit worthwhile. The trail runs partly on an asphalt road, then along a forest road and may also be used by bicycle.

Route description Owl Trail in the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area
From the Rothschild-Teiche car park in Steinbachtal (Göstling/Ybbs), head into the valley on an asphalt road to the actual start of the Owl Trail. At the end of the asphalt road, follow the forest road straight ahead for about 2km to the head of the Windischbachau valley (= turnaround point). Take the same path back to the car park.
The path length in one direction is 3.4 km. Including the way back, 6.8 km of path length and the necessary time are to be planned for.

Coming from Linz: A1 exit Oed - direction Aschbach Markt - continue on the B121 to Waidhofen - in Waidhofen/Ybbs take the B31 direction Göstling/Ybbs
Coming from Vienna: A1 exit Ybbs/Donau - direction Eisenstraße - follow the B25 to Göstling/Ybbs
