Details for: Panoramatour auf den Dürrenstein

Brief description

The summit of the Dürrenstein, with its artistic pottery cross, is the alpine highlight of Lunz am See! Admire the breathtaking 360° panorama in silent awe...

Description

The high alpine path leads you steadily through the jungle-like trenches of Lechner. On this 2-day tour, you will quickly learn that being in good shape is a great plus. At the “Grünloch” (Green Hole) – a huge sinkhole – you will walk past the cold pole of Central Europe. Who would have guessed? Other sinkholes mark the atmospheric route between Hirzeck and Wiesenalm and up to the Ybbstalerhütte inn, where you will stay overnight. The next morning, when you have recharged your batteries, head out through the heavily karstified mountain pastures, which are overgrown with knee timber and tall herbaceous flora, to the Legsteinhütte inn. Over a unique karstified limestone plateau with deep sinkholes and bizarre cart furrows, as well as rich alpine flora, make your way to the summit of the Dürrenstein (1,878 m) with its artistic pottery cross – the alpine highlight of Lunz am See!

Admire the breathtaking 360° panorama in silent awe...

The descent leads through lush pine fields, across alpine meadows of the Herrenalm, and then down to the Leonhardikreuz.

You will then leave the alpine pasture area and descend into the idyllic forest basin of the Obersee. The emerald green mountain lake – a natural jewel which is shrouded in legend and framed by an unrefined mountain forest – enchants with its small island and rare swimming lawn. On a comfortable forest road, it goes downhill through the wildly romantic Seetal, past the “Brüllenden Stier” (“Bawling Bull” – an underground waterfall) and the approximately 60 m high Ludwigfall, down to the Mittersee lake. The last of the three mountain lakes, the Lunzer See, is not too far away. Once there, diving in for a refreshing swim is the perfect way to end an eventful tour.
