Full of facets: Cross-country skiing in Mitterbach at Lake Erlauf
Enjoyable cross-country skiing with a view of Mt. Ötscher and a fast connection to Mariazell region.
Skiing, ice skating, winter hiking and, of course, cross-country skiing: In Mitterbach at Lake Erlauf it is easy to enjoy winter.
Mitterbach is ideally located for the grand mountain experience: The small town not only lies at the foot of the action-packed Gemeindealpe ski resort but also in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park only 5 km from Mariazell. Cross-country skiers also benefit from the great location – in addition to the 3 km long Erlauf cross-country ski track they can also access the 8 km long World Cup track in St. Sebastian/Mariazell via a connecting track which results in an impressive total length of 12 kilometres.
Cross-country ski track full of views
The slightly ascending Erlauf cross-country ski track that is also manageable for beginners starts opposite of the base terminal of the lifts and leads through the charming landscape of nature park town Mitterbach, opening up views of Mt. Gemeindealpe and Mt. Ötscher again and again.
By the way: Cross-country skis can be rented directly from the ski rental of the Gemeindealpe Mitterbach ski resort.
Wintery pleasures at the lake
If you prefer ice skates to cross-country skis, Mitterbach has several worthwhile skating possibilities on offer: If the weather is right, the ideal ice-skating rink for beginners is the village pond in the town centre of Mitterbach. Last minute skaters can rent skates from the nature park café Zuser.
Lake Erlauf is also a great place for ice skating, weather permitting (enter at your own risk – no snow removal). Snowfall also turns the walking paths along Lake Erlauf and the Erlauf river reservoir into very romantic winter hiking trails.
